Children's Dentistry
Gentle, welcoming dental care for children of all ages. We focus on building positive dental habits early - making every visit a comfortable and reassuring experience.
We believe that a child's first dental experiences set the tone for their relationship with oral health for life. At Shine Dental Newington, we take a gentle, patient approach with children - taking the time to explain what we're doing, answer questions, and never rush.
Children's dental care at our practise covers everything from routine check-ups and cleans to fissure sealants (a protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to help prevent decay), fluoride treatments, and monitoring the development of the bite and jaw.
We welcome children for their first dental visit as soon as their first teeth appear - or by age two at the latest. Early visits help establish familiarity with the dental environment and allow us to identify any concerns with tooth development or habits early.
Dr. Cho is also a certified Myobrace provider, with a special interest in early orthodontic intervention for children. If you've noticed mouth breathing, snoring, or crowded baby teeth in your child, Myobrace assessment may be worthwhile.

Frequently Asked Questions
When should I bring my child for their first dental visit?
We recommend bringing children for their first visit as soon as their first teeth appear - or no later than age two. Early visits are typically brief and focus on familiarising your child with the dental environment, and giving parents guidance on oral hygiene for young children.
What are fissure sealants?
Fissure sealants are a thin, protective coating applied to the grooves (fissures) of the back teeth. These grooves can trap food and bacteria, making them prone to decay. Sealants fill and seal these grooves, providing a smooth surface that is much easier to keep clean.
My child has crooked baby teeth - should I be worried?
Not necessarily - some crowding in baby teeth can be normal. However, it can also be an early sign of jaw development issues that benefit from early intervention. Dr. Cho will monitor your child's development at each visit and discuss any concerns.
